DHAMMABUCHA ROCKSPRINGS Theravada Buddhist Meditation Sanctuary

DAILY SCHEDULE

The daily schedule at Rocksprings is consistent. This stability provides a rhythm and pattern for our lives where the mind can relax into the practice of bhavana, or mind development. This daily routine enables us to participate in community activities, as well as provide time for personal practice and reflection.

7:00 am - Meet at the meditation hall (sala) for morning chanting and meditation.

7:45 am - A light breakfast in the kitchen of rice gruel, oatmeal, cereal, coffee, tea, etc.

8:30 am to 11:00 am - Private practice time where we can meditate on our own in our kutis or in the sala, go for a walk, study Dhamma, or, if you choose do some “working meditation” and help out with meal preparation, gardening, maintenance, construction, repairs, cleaning, etc.

11:00 am - Lunch

11:30 am - Kitchen clean up.

12:00 until 1:00 Walking meditation

1:00 to 4:00 pm - Optional time: Rest, Dhamma study in sala or kutis, meditation, working meditation, showers.

4:00 pm - Meditation in sala.

5:00 pm - Walking meditation.

6:00 pm - We either meet under the canopies outside the kitchen, in the gazebo, or on the platforms behind the sala. This is a general social get-together with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, juice, a soft drink, and sometimes a small allowable snack of sunflower seeds, cheese and honey. During this time, we might have a group Dhamma study or discussion, read from a Dhamma book, or a listen to a recorded Dhamma talk.

7:30 pm - Evening chanting, followed by thirty minutes of meditation. Then we retire to our dwelling places to practice further and read dhamma or perhaps use some of the walking meditation paths near the sala to practice at night. (Kerosene lanterns are available).
